Nigeria is gearing up to launch a state-of-the-art data centre with a storage capacity of up to 1.4 petabytes before May 29, 2024.
According to a statement from Nigeria’s Interior Ministry, the Minister of interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the announcement during a meeting with the delegation of the National Union of Nigerian Associations in Italy (NUNAI) at his office in Abuja this week.
He added that the data centre will house a comprehensive range of critical national information, including citizens’ bio-data.
One petabyte is equal to a thousand terabytes, or a million gigabytes or one quadrillion bytes. Some estimates that, in physical terms, a petabyte is the equivalent of 20 million tall filing cabinets or 500 billion pages of standard printed text.
