NPP members joined campaign against New Voters register – Gyataba

Scores of members of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) on Tuesday joined the protest against the Electoral Commission’s decision to compile new voters register ahead of the December polls, according to the Founder and National Chairman of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Agyenim Boateng, aka Gyataba.

“They were there in their numbers massively. NPP is my family and so I know faces within the ruling party,” Gyataba told host Kweku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

For him, this gives credence to the fact that President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would be dethroned in this year’s general elections.

A petition has been sent to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II after opposition parties and other CSOs poured onto the principal streets of Kumasi Tuesday to protest.

The Kumasi demonstration code-named “Yenpini demo” comes barely a fortnight after the first protest held in Tamale in the Northern region.

The parties maintain that a new register is a waste of taxpayers’ money and could also create tension since the election is close.

But the Electoral Commission, insists it will compile the register despite the disagreement by the parties and civil society organizations.
