NPP Parl. Primaries: Ahafo Regional Minister urged to respect directives on Covid-19

The Minister for Ahafo Region, Evans Opoku Bobbie, has been advised to priorities the well-being of the ordinary people in the society over political power. He has been accused of flouting President Akufo-Addo’s directives on the observance of social distance and a halt in all political activities in the wake of the increasing numbers of confirmed coronavirus pandemic in the country.

President Nana Akufo-Addo recently announced the suspension of all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, sporting events and religious activities such as Churches services and gatherings in mosque for four weeks. This was extended for two more weeks as the country continue to battle with the coronavirus pandemic. The country currently has over 600 confirmed cases, losing eight lives with about 17 recoveries.

However, a concerned citizen and a party faithful of the Asunafo North Constituency, (name withheld) has told Ghananewsonline.com.gh in an interview that the Regional Minister must respect and abide by the decisions of the President, cautioning him not to allow himself to be used as an agent in spreading the virus in the Region. He was advised to by halt all political activities and use his position to help educate the masses on the pandemic.

It seems the the directives of the President fell on death ears of the Ahafo Regional Minister as he is alleged to have held a political campaign with over 50 persons in attendance at Kasapin some of which include delegates of the NPP who were soliciting votes ahead of the party’s Parliamentary Primaries.

It is gathered that the Member of Parliament Opoku Bobbie in one of his routine campaigns tours with his team last Friday summoned delegates from Kasapin electoral area in the Asunafo North Constituency which is made of eight polling stations including Kwaku kra, Kwame Saara, Kwame Amaade3, Akwaboa hene, Kasapin CMB shed’s A, AA, B and BB.

These, the party faithful has classified as gross disrespect on the part of the incumbent MP and the Regional Minister questioning why a whole Regional Minister should flout a directive by the President in the name of political power?

He observed that “looking at the rate at which the virus keeps spreading in Ghana, our dear President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo is doing his very best to make sure the good people of Ghana are safe at this critical times of which a lot of directives have been given across the length and breath of the country,.

“Even though Ahafo Region has not recorded any case of the virus yet, the good people of the area are grateful and continue to appreciate the good work of the Lord and the government, praying he should keep on guiding and protecting us till we get a cure to this virus.

“I want the Regional minister to also understand that, he is not above the laws and if he would not obey, he should allow the people to respect the order of the President. If he cannot help to educate the good people of our dear Region about the coronavirus, then he should stop the spread”.

He called on people of the country to respect all protocols laid down by the health experts in fighting this COVID-19 pandemic.
