The much awaited parliamentary primaries of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, to elect parliamentary candidates to contest on the party’s ticket in the December polls eventually comes off this Saturday 20, 2020.
The primaries which would have been conducted earlier but for the coronavirus pandemic is being conducted in constituencies where the party has sitting members of parliament, since primaries were earlier held in their orphan constituencies.
The exercise will be conducted in only the three Tema constituencies out of the nine constituencies in the Tema Region.
Tema East and West are the areas of attraction as the incumbents face fierce contests from known persons in their respective constituencies.
Though people refer to Tema Central as a done deal for the sitting MP, Kofi Brako since his only opponent, Nii Noi did not present any seriously campaign, political pundits refer to such situations as slippery.
Carlos Ahenorah has an arduous task to execute, facing vociferous Kwesi Poku Bosomprah, who according to many is his equal match.
The Tema West Presiding Member has embarked on vigorous campaign which has consolidated his influence in the constituency and is deemed to win the incumbent.
Not only him, but another grassroot person who has gone through the mill as far as Tema West NPP is concerned is Keku Armquagi Armuzuah.
He had held lots of position in the constituency since 1991 that he joined the party, identifying with the delegates which presents him as the preferred choice.
The former GPHA Union Chairman to many people will pull a surprise in the Saturday contest, basing their conviction on vote splitting between Carlos Ahenorah and Kwesi Poku.
Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus Glover has a keen contest to taste as he battles Ben Ashitey, none other than a brother to the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey.
There have been issues from both camps ever since the man picked forms to contest the Tema East MP.
In spite of having leverage over his sole opponent as a Deputy Minister, Titus Glover to many, has lost touch with the base of the party members in the constituency, the reason people are seeking change in the leadership this time round.
Most of all, the Tema East constituents of the NPP want a coherent front and stronger candidate to stand the NDC parliamentary candidate, Isaac Ashai Odamtten who is also an indigene, a former Tema Mayor and given his persona.
Considering the feelings and atmosphere in both Tema East and West, leadership change is possible in either of the two, though unseating incumbent cones with an extra effort.
But in all, all candidates except Nii Noi, the only contender to Kofi Brako the Tema Central MP, all the candidate have campaigned vigorously and are hopeful of victory come tomorrow, time will surely tell.
