The Minority in Parliament has formally requested a meeting with the Ghana Police Service ahead of its second #OccupyBoG demonstration, aimed at demanding the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies.
The protest scheduled to take place tomorrow, August 13, 2024, seeks to highlight what the Minority describes as the “gross mismanagement” of the country’s economy under the current leadership of the central bank.
In a letter to the Ghana Police Service dated Monday, August 12, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said the NDC MPs are keen on ensuring that the demonstration proceeds peacefully, without any confrontations with law enforcement.
The Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP also pointed out that the previous #OccupyBoG demonstration was conducted peacefully, and added that the group is committed to upholding the same standard in the upcoming event.
Dr Forson stressed that the protest is a call for accountability and transparency, reiterating the group’s demand for the immediate resignation of the central bank’s leadership.
He argued that the continued stay in office of the current officials erodes public confidence in the financial system, making their resignation necessary for restoring trust.
