Office of Special Prosecutor arrests Prof Frimpong-Boateng over Corruption; Grants him GH¢5m Bail

The investigation by the anti-corruption agency was necessitated by a controversial report submitted by Prof Frimpong-Boateng regarding the IMCIM, which was responsible for combating illegal mining activities in the country.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has arrested the former Chairman of the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng over allegations of corruption and corruption-related activities during his tenure at the IMCIM.

The former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation was invited by the OSP on May 16, 2023, to assist in investigations into the illegal mining menace in the country and the role of some government officials.

The investigation by the anti-corruption agency was necessitated by a controversial report submitted by Prof Frimpong-Boateng regarding the IMCIM, which was responsible for combating illegal mining activities in the country.

Allegations of corruption and irregularities surrounding the committee’s operations prompted the OSP to initiate an inquiry into the former minister’s role.

Sources close to News Alert Gh said during the interrogations of the renowned heart surgeon last month, officers informed him of his arrest in relation to an amount of GH¢320 million which was allegedly misappropriated by the IMCIM.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng has since been granted a GH¢5 million bail by the OSP.
