The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Offinso South Constituency of the Ashanti Region last Friday donated some Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Constituents. It is the party’s support to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the Offinso South Municipality.
The NDC led by the former Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Haruna Yussif, who is also the current Parliamentary Candidate of the party in the 2020 general elections, presented about 3,000 nose masks and over 10 gallons and 200 mini sized hand sanitisers to two taxi stations, Physically Challenge Action Foundation, Radio Stations and other people living in the Municipality.
In an interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh, Yussif assured the people of additional 7,000 nose masks from the party for distribution. He said the donation has become necessary because citizens need to protect themselves from the virus.
The Ashanti Region has declared a mandatory use of the nose mask by every individual.
According to the Parliamentary Candidate, the fight against the novel coronavirus has become a collective effort, and as a member of the great ‘Akatamanso’ party in Offinso South, they could not have sat down and watched other people and organization to do the donation.
In the wake of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, several individuals and organizations are supporting institutions and communities with PPE to enhance the fight against and stop the spread.
“I want to urge my fellow politicians to desist from politicing the pandemic because the virus has no sympathy for political colors, be it PPP, PNC, NPP or NDC. Let us come together to fight this unknown virus from the country and the world at large,” the candidate stated.
He also advised Parliamentary Candidates who have chosen to campaign with the situation by posting their political campaign posters on the PPE before donating the to the beneficiaries to stop such acts.
“Emulate the Offinso South NDC as we distribute generously devoid of party colors,” he added.
Meanwhile, Barima Antwi Sylvester, the leader and founder of Physically Challenge Action Foundation in Offinso, who was among the beneficiaries, thanked the NDC for the kind gesture. He called on all well-meaning citizens and corporate entities to support his personns living with disability in the constituency with PPE.
Antwi took advantage of the occasion to complain to the party about the challenges the members have been facing with daily feeding. He called for further support.
