I wish to take the opportunity of the shadow of a December 7 election- related coming event at the Supreme Court to write this open letter to the Holy Father Archbishop Palmer-Buckle of the Arch-Diocese of Cape Coast.
Holy Father, you must be aware by now that some Ghanaians believed to be members/supporters/sympathizers of the leading Opposition Party were killed and injured during and after the recent December 7 Election.
Please, have you heard President Akufo Addo, the democratically elected sitting President of Ghana say a word of condolence or sympathy to the bereaved/victims’ families?
Please, have you heard the President speak of investigations into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate loss of lives and limbs of our fellow Citizens?
As we get to the deep end in the nation’s struggle for truth, justice and peace from Wednesday, 30th December, 2020, I wish to respectfully remind you our Holy Father of the great pledge on peaceful and credible elections Nana Akufo-Addo stated in an advertisement in the Daily Graphic of Saturday, December 1, 2012 as follows:
I believe that the peace that we all seek and pray for in our country can only be guaranteed if every sector plays its part in delivering a free and fair election— the political parties, the Electoral Commission, the government, the security agencies, and the citizenry as a whole.
I can speak for the NPP and state without any equivocation that we will not do anything to endanger the peace of the nation in any way during these elections. It is in our interest that the elections come off peacefully and the outcome credible.
My most respected Holy Father Palmer-Buckle, may you respectfully ask President Akufo-Addo to back his great timeless pledge with positive action.
Otherwise…
I shall return.
