John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the NDC, has asked President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to order the parliamentary candidates (PC) of the NPP, to get their posters off the DRIP equipment recently distributed by government.
John Mahama avers the earth-moving machines were bought with taxpayers’ money which included every Ghanaian irrespective of their political party affiliation.
The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) is a nationwide initiative aimed at improving road conditions across all 275 constituencies.
It has seen the deployment of machines to all the regions across the country for onward distribution to the districts to help repair their roads.
However, some videos that have gone viral on social media has the posters of some of the parliamentary candidates of the NPP on the machines. This, is what John Mahama says should not be countenanced.
During a rally at Yeji in the Pru East district Wednesday, September 04, 2024, John Mahama said the project should not be reduced to a campaigning platform for the NPP since the equipment were procured with citizens’ taxes.
He says the President was elected to serve the entire nation and not the NPP alone, demanding that he orders the candidates to remove their posters from the machines.
John Mahama cautioned that if the President fails to get the posters off the machines, the NDC will revert.
“It’s the government’s money, funded by the taxes we all pay—whether you’re NPP, CPP, Christian, or Muslim—everyone contributes. They’ve used those taxes to import earth-moving equipment for road construction, and each district has been allocated some. But now, we’re seeing posters of NPP parliamentary candidates on the DRIP equipment.
“I want to remind Akufo-Addo and Bawumia that they serve the entire country, not just the NPP. The equipment doesn’t belong to the party; it belongs to all Ghanaians.
“No one has the right to place their posters on the DRIP equipment. They must order the immediate removal of these posters, or we’ll be forced to take action ourselves,” he stated.
