The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sent strong signals to its main opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on its battle readiness as it elect young, dynamic and popular faces in Ghanaian politics to represent the party in some of the 111 orphaned constituencies across the country for the 2024 parliamentary elections.
New But Known Faces
Some of these known figures cuts across politics, public service, and business, among other sectors.
The new but vibrant and publicly known faces elected by the NPP delegates across the country include; the Director General of the National Lotteries Authority, Sammi Awuku, who was elected unopposed for the Akwapim North constituency, former Central regional vice chairman of the NPP, Horace Ekow Ewusi for the Cape Coast North ticket, and a former Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Colonel Kwadwo Damoah who won the NPP ticket for the Jaman South Constituency.
Other big wins on the NPP Parliamentary Candidate tickets include, Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin who picked the Awutu Senya West constituency slot, deputy Director of Communications also at the Jubilee House, Jefferson Kwamina Sackey for the Ablekuma Central ticket whiles Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide pick the Asuogyaman slot even as Kojo Frimpong of the Mineral Income Investment Fund (MIIF) got the Wenchi ticket.
Former MPs Who Are Returning
Former Members of Parliament who are staging a comeback as newly elected Parliamentary Candidates (PCs) for the NPP include Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Bernard Okoye Boye for Ledzokuku, Matthew Nyindam for Kpandai, Barbara Oteng Gyasi for Prestea Huni Valley, Solomon Boah for Bunkpurugu and Joseph Dindiok Kpemka for Tempane.
Former Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira MP, Catherine Abelema Afeku is also seeking a possible comeback against businessman, Justice Kangah but the poll was cancelled at the 11th hour due to disagreements on the choice of venue for the primaries.
Incumbent Switch
The only incumbent MP in the entire race Nana Ama Asiamah Adjei who switched camp from Akwapim North, historically won the Okwaikwei North Constituency ticket for the NPP.
Others
The rest are former constituency chairman Valentino Nii Noi Nortey for the Klotey Korle ticket, a Businesswoman, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, after a second attempt at securing the NPP ticket won it against deputy minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey for the Ayensuano constituency, while a relatively known face Akosua Manu popularly known as Kozie won the Adentan constituency ticket to represent the party.
