Pay for the power you use – Energy Minister tells managers of State-owned Enterprises

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has made it clear to State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) not to misuse electricity.

He pointed out that power is no longer free, thus must be paid for in full.

“Power is no longer free. Electricity is no more free, and we must all pay for the power that we use,” he stated.

Mr Jinapor urged them to change their attitude towards electricity consumption to forestall financial challenges within the energy sector.

Speaking in an interview with Metro TV on Wednesday, March 26, the Energy Minister failure to do so could have dire implications for the sector.

“If we don’t change our attitude, we will run into huge problems,” the Minister warned.

Mr Jinapor further highlighted the importance of efficiency in power usage, particularly among SOEs, which he accused of excessive consumption without adequate financial accountability.

He urged institutions to prioritise energy conservation and payment compliance to avoid putting undue pressure on the national grid and government resources.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to enforcing payment regulations and called for stricter measures to prevent financial losses in the energy sector.
