After almost 16 hours of being stranded at a Libya airport, Nigeria’s national team players are set for a return home.
The Super Eagles were scheduled to play their Libyan counterparts in the 2nd leg of their Group D Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday, October 15.
However, while en route to Benghazi for the return leg, the plane carrying the Nigerian players was diverted to another airport.
According to the captain of the Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong, who took to X to pour out his frustrations, the airport gates were locked shortly after their arrival without any phone connection nor food and water.
After the Saudi-based player broke this news on social media, a bus was said to have been made available to transport the players to the match venue.
But he insisted the players will not honour the match.
The three-time African champions had beaten the Mediterranean Knights by a lone goal in the first leg on Friday, October 11.
