PNC condemns ‘outmoded’ Arise Ghana demo

The PNC called on the demonstrators to proffer alternative policy ideas to lessen the current economic hardship and rather resort to “criticize the government policies via public fora, organizing institutional lectures, peaceful submitting petitions to appropriate government institutions and making use of our court system to push through demands, amongst other means”.

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has descended heavily on the violent demonstration staged by pressure group Arise Ghana on Tuesday, but continuing peacefully on Wednesday, June 29.

According to the party, though demonstrations are a part of democracy, street protests like the one embarked upon by Arise Ghana on Tuesday “must not and should not be the way a group vests its disappointment on our government, especially in this current circumstance”.

It said in a press statement dated Wednesday, June 29 that street protests are “becoming outmoded in modern democracies and protesting without providing solution is equally outmoded”.

Ironically, some of the convenors of the demonstration are members of the PNC.

While Bernard Mornah is a former National Chairman of the party, Awudu Ishaq describes himself as Communications Secretary of the party.

“PNC wish to use this medium to serve notice that we are not part and we do not subscribe to the Arise Ghana demo.

“It has come to our notice that one Awudu Ishaq is parading himself as the Communication Secretary of the party, the media and the general public should kindly treat him as an imposter.”
