The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the cause of death of Lois Abena Koranteng, a 24-year-old woman who was found unconscious in a swimming pool at a hotel in Takoradi.
Lois was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital on June 8th, 2024.
The police statement revealed that an autopsy was conducted at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on the same day, in the presence of Lois’ family.
The pathologist determined that the cause of death was “asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema, and drowning.”
In response to concerns from her family about the extent of police engagement, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare reached out to them on July 10 to offer an apology.
The police statement noted, “He assured them that investigation into the incident is still ongoing and also informed them of the readiness of the Police to visit them at their convenience and update them on the investigation done so far.”
It further emphasized the police’s commitment to the investigation and to maintaining open communication with the family.
“Police will continue to work closely with the family as investigation into the incident continues.”
