The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged all political parties and stakeholders attending Tuesday’s crucial Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to present concrete evidence and data to support any concerns they may have about discrepancies in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
The EC emphasised that this evidence-based approach will facilitate a collaborative resolution of any outstanding issues with the register.
In a statement issued on Monday, 30 September 2024, the EC expressed disappointment with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighting the party’s failure to provide data despite repeated demands for a forensic audit of the PVR.
The commission called on the NDC to present its findings at the upcoming meeting, stressing that the production of the Final Voters Register is a continuous process and not a one-time event.
“The EC remains committed to working with all stakeholders to address any discrepancies in the PVR through constructive dialogue at IPAC,” the statement noted.
Meanwhile, the NDC has renewed its demand for live media coverage of the October 1 IPAC meeting.
Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of IT and Elections, argued that real-time media access would offer Ghanaians unbiased, firsthand information on the status of the voter register.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Boamah reiterated the party’s insistence on a forensic audit, asserting that discrepancies in the register remain unresolved.
The NDC and the EC have been locked in a public disagreement over the accuracy of the voter register, with the opposition party consistently calling for a thorough review ahead of the 2024 general elections.
