President John Dramani Mahama has ordered all his Appointees to declare their assets latest by March 31, 2025. He said he takes asset declaration very seriously as it helps in curbing corruption.
President Mahama gave this order when he presented his assets declaration forms to the Auditor General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu at a brief ceremony held at the Jubilee house on Tuesday.
The President explained that the declaration of his assets is motivated by his openness and transparency as President, adding that, it is also in fulfillment of his statutory obligation.
He revealed that the Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act, 1998 (Act 550) governs asset declaration in Ghana which he said must be adhered to by all public officials.
“Corruption by nature is insidious and thrives in darkness,” President Mahama stressed.
He expressed worry over assets which have been shrouded in secrecy by public officials in the past, urging all public officials to take advantage of the Asset declaration law.
“We must take advantage of the asset declaration law and make it more relevant to changing times so issues of unexplained wealth can be checked,” he emphasized.
The Auditor General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu received the forms and thanked the president for fulfilling his constitutional obligations.
