President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the urgent need to eliminate corruption within the Ghana Police Service, urging greater transparency and accountability in law enforcement.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, President Mahama highlighted the damaging impact of corruption on justice and public trust.

“Mr. IGP, your role will also involve rooting out corruption within the service,” he stated, underscoring the need for decisive action against unethical practices.

The President stressed that corruption within law enforcement weakens the justice system and erodes public confidence in security agencies.

“Corruption in law enforcement undermines justice and weakens public confidence in our security agencies,” he added.

He urged the newly appointed IGP to take firm action against misconduct, including bribery and abuse of power, to ensure that police officers uphold the highest standards of integrity.

“It is crucial that all forms of unethical behavior, from bribery to the abuse of power, are decisively dealt with,” he emphasized.

Mahama reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement institutions, calling for a transparent and accountable police service that prioritizes the interests of the public.
