She made it easier for the NDC to exact self-confession from the NPP by inducing them with her aptitude, charming qualities, and deafening feminine dexterity. The NDC found it difficult to tag the NPP as a party that believes in violence and goads its activists to engage in violent behaviour. Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang
But soon as she was named as the running mate to President John Dramani Mahama, leading members of the NPP were running over each’s heels with a press conference and through interviews to run her down to little effect. Summarily, those who spoke at this instance ended up saying she wasn’t cut for the job, because she couldn’t take the jabs. Really, is that the definition of politics in the dictionary of the Busia-Danquah tradition?. Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang

Indeed, the woes of Ghana started with organized violence by the ancestors of the NPP through assassination attempts on President Kwame Nkrumah and assault on the First Republic. Ultimately, it culminated into the February 24, 1966 coup d’etat that toppled the First Republic. It became the yardstick of the Second Republic under Dr. KA Busia, who notably is remembered for his intolerance for dissenting views. Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang
Dr. Busia has gone down Ghana’s history as having supported the banning of the Convention People’s Party, the political party founded by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, though they were branded as pro-democracy and ant-one-party. He is also remembered for introducing Apollo 568 and the case involving Salah – two obnoxious elements of state discrimination, intolerance, and sheer show of raw power. Finally, he distinguished himself as having paid himself two years’ salaries and rent allowance in advance.
Little wonder when Akufo-Addo, in his own words, took leaves of lessons to hype NPP activists in a closed-door meeting, inciting them to take action in violence with the operational words, all-die-be-die. Also, Akufo-Addo never hesitated to refer to NPP activists as “militants on his side.” By this time, Ghana was suddenly engulfed with a mystery of fire outbreaks in public places, especially markets in Accra and Kumasi, beginning with the torching of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building at its former location near Tema Station in 2009.
In rallies of all sorts organized by the NPP from 2009 until 2016, speaker after speaker incited activists of the party to throw bombs, burning electric power transformers, and markets across the country to “make Ghana ungovernable.” Speaking in a television interview on UTV, Akufo-Addo encouraged NPP activists to stage an Arab Spring, making inferences to similar situations of unemployment in Ghana which led a Tunisian university graduate to burn himself to death in Tunisia, thereby generating the Arab Spring.
Indeed, some NPP activists did converge later at Obra Spot, near Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, following that call on UTV by Akufo-Addo. Not long after that, the fight was taken to the Supreme Court, through a petition challenging Elections 2012 results. Sometime later after the ruling of the petition to the SC went in favor of the NDC, some three South Africa security agents at the invitation of Dankwa Institute into Ghana to train NPP activists in weapon handling, were apprehended and deported for engaging in subversive activities in Ghana.
That action by the government came too late in the day since it later became apparent that the NPP had earlier flown Serbian security experts into Ghana to train and equip NPP activists with strategies towards what was referred to as Attacking the Pillars of Power. Out of the blues, one day men brandishing machetes emerged at the NPP national headquarters in Polo and T-shirts with the inscriptions Invisible Forces, ostensibly to quell a standoff between supporters of three suspended party officials and those against them.
Ghana was getting ready for the 2016 elections. And that emergence of the Invisible Forces was timed to outdoor an intimidating elections campaign. Following that, several seizures of ammunition and assault weapons by security agents alarmed the entire nation. A man was jailed in the USA for the attempt to illegally smuggle ammunitions and weapons to Ghana. Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang
