The vibrant community of Agona Kwayanko recently celebrated its annual Akwanbo Festival, which was chaired by the distinguished Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu. The festival, held on September 22, 2014, was marked by Prof. Asiedu’s exceptional generosity, leadership, and commitment to the community.
Prof. Asiedu made a significant impact with his philanthropy. In the lead-up to the festival, he contributed GH¢10,000 towards the event’s preparations. On Saturday, he extended his humanitarian efforts by donating an additional GH¢50,000 for the construction of a community center, a key project tied to the festival. This donation was made in the presence of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, with Prof. Asiedu expressing concerns about the government’s failure to meet the expectations of Ghanaians, including the people of Agonaman.
Further demonstrating his dedication to the development of Agona Kwayanko, Prof. Asiedu pledged to support the community center project with 300 bags of cement, five trips of sand, and one ton of iron rods to expedite construction efforts.
The community was filled with joy and excitement when Prof. Asiedu made these announcements, hailing him as a Godsent figure poised to uplift the people of Agona Kwayanko.
During the festival, Prof. Asiedu was awarded the prestigious title of “Refined Man of Peace” in recognition of his instrumental role in resolving a seven-year chieftaincy dispute within the community. His tireless efforts, alongside Prof. Kofi Anokye and Mr. Samuel Frimpong, were lauded for bringing lasting peace to the area.
In addition to his peacebuilding contributions, Prof. Asiedu is also playing a significant role in improving education in Agona Kwayanko. As a board member of Kwayanko Senior High School (SHS), he is personally financing the construction of a seven-bedroom, self-contained residence for the school’s headmistress. This initiative aims to bring the headmistress closer to her students and improve discipline and the overall functioning of the school.
In recognition of his benevolence and contributions to education, a school block has been named in his honor, further solidifying his legacy in the community.
The people of Agona Kwayanko expressed immense gratitude and admiration for Prof. Asiedu’s timely interventions, which have demonstrated his unwavering commitment to community development and peaceful coexistence.
This heartwarming story of service and leadership was also witnessed by the NDC Member of Parliament for Agona East, Hon. Maame Pokua Sawyer, who was present to grace the occasion.
