Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang Interacts with Central Region Queen Mothers

Professor Opoku-Agyemang also urged the Queen Mothers to be vocal about issues affecting the nation, emphasizing their potential as a significant force. She encouraged them to openly support good initiatives and to speak out against any shortcomings.

Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, met with the Central Region Queen Mothers’ Association at the Central Region House of Chiefs in Cape Coast on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed her gratitude to the Queen Mothers for their overwhelming support during her acceptance speech at UPSA, Accra. She noted that their presence was a source of encouragement, symbolizing a bond that requires constant nurturing.

She likened her position to that of a student eager to learn from the Queen Mothers. Professor Opoku-Agyemang reiterated her awareness of the high expectations of her role and assured them that she could rely on their support and guidance.

Nana Adjoa Nkansah Aduam, the President of the Queen Mothers’ Association, thanked Professor Opoku-Agyemang for her visit and invited the Queen Mothers present to share their thoughts. Their primary concerns centred on educational and healthcare access for women and children in their communities. They requested that, if elected Vice President, Professor Opoku-Agyemang ensure Queen Mothers have representation on boards addressing gender issues in the country.

They also urged her to revive the beneficial initiatives for Queen Mothers that the NDC government had previously instituted to help develop their communities.

In response, Professor Opoku-Agyemang thanked the Queen Mothers for their input and assured them of the NDC’s commitment to empowering Queen Mothers to aid their communities. She called for their strong support in the upcoming elections to ensure the NDC returns to power and continues to meet their needs.

To aid their organizational work, Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang presented the Queen Mothers with bottles of water, cartons of assorted drinks, snacks, and an undisclosed amount of money.

Joining Professor Opoku-Agyemang was Mad. Faustina Lamptey, Central Regional Women’s Organizer; Mad. Theresa Buckman, Cape Coast North Deputy Women’s Organizer; Mad. Dzifa Glover, Cape Coast South Deputy Women’s Organizer; Mad. Sarah Ampofo, Twifo Etimokwa Women’s Organizer; and Mad. Vivian Sefor, KEEA Constituency Women’s Organizer.

Present at the meeting were various Queen Mothers from paramountcies and towns in the Central Region, as well as the executives of the Association: Nana Adjoa Nkansah Aduam, President; Nana Benyiwa, Vice-President; Nana Addae Aduaa, Secretary; Nana Otosi Otubea, Financial Secretary; and Nana Bedu, Organizer.
