Some gunmen on motorcycles stormed Bazua at about 1:30 AM on Sunday 27/08/23 and attempted murdering the NDC Chairman of the Binduri Constituency – Mr. Martin Ariku.
A similar incident occured on 21/08/23 when gunmen on motorcycles shot sporadically, but targetted and killed two persons – identified as Peter Ndezuri, a Budget Officer of the Pusiga District Assembly, and one Solo, a tailor and NPP Nasara Coordinator for the Binduri Constituency.
Bazua locals reported that in the early hours of Sunday – 27/08/23 – the gun men raided the residence of the Binduri NDC Constituency Chairman, Mr. Martin Ariku.
Sources say some locals engaged the attackers in a shootout and killed one of the gunmen and injured the others. The gunmen were said to have attempted in vain to retrieve the body of their colleague as they fled the scene.
At 2:20 AM, it was reported that the Garu Health Centre ambulance was called in to transport an injured person from the Binduri Health Centre to Bolgatanga
As the Binduri Health Centre is just some 15 km from Bazua, some locals became suspicious that the ambulance could be transporting an injured gunman associated with the Bazua shooting incident.
At about 5:20 AM, another dead body was discovered lying in a pool of blood in the NDC Chairman’s neighbourhood.
At about 6:05 AM, a stranger with gunshot wounds on both legs was found by some residents at a location near the Bazua Area Council, about 4km from the shooting scene.
The residents said he confessed he was one of the gunmen who was abandoned by his colleagues. He was lynched by a mob.
Rumours are gaining currency that some mercenaries have been recruited from outside the Kusaug Traditional Area to engage in targetted killing of prominent persons – especially high profile political figures.
