Founder and Chairman of the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Flt. Lt. (Rtd)., Jerry John Rawlings, has stated that the core values of, comradeship as well as the spirit of camaraderie, need to be re-centered in the heart and soul of the Party in order to fully establish the true identity of the NDC.
Rawlings made the statement when he drove from Accra to Ho, today, Thursday, November 14, 2019, to personally commiserate with, Mr. Henry Ametefe, Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, over the sudden death of his wife 10 days ago; after over 40 years of marriage.
The Founder and Chairman of the Council of Elders of the NDC, said he was hit hard by the news of the sudden demise of Mrs. Ametefe, and decided to drive personally to H to pay his respects.
According to Rawlings, “I am the Founder and Chairman of the Council of Elders of the NDC, and I am also a true son of the Volta Region and so it is only right and proper that I come to my home Region and express my deepest condolences to you, my Regional Chairman, and to assure you that the entire NDC Family in the Region and beyond join hearts with you in this deep moment of grief, and we shall be with you till all rites are performed and concluded to give your late beloved wife a befitting safe passage to the land of our ancestors”.
On his part, Mr. Ametefe expressed his profound appreciation to the Founder of the NDC for driving from Accra to Ho in bad weather conditions to come mourn with him. According to the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, who himself was a bedrock of the Cadre Movement during the PNDC days, the fellow-feeling exhibited by the Founder has certainly rekindled the Cadre spirit which is now missing in the NDC. “What you have done this morning has really touched my heart and the heart of the Region. This is what defines us as the NDC and you have proven that you still love the NDC and it is my prayer that all the mudslinging and vilification will stop so we can focus on the bigger agenda”
His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings assured Mr. Ametefe that, God-willing and all things being equal, he will be back for the burial ceremony and to pay his last respects.
Also present, was Koku Anyidoho, immediate-past Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, who is also a bonafide son of the Volta Region and who hails from the Ho Central Constituency.
