For the first time since the repeal of crimilal Libel Law, a journalist was detained for speaking against the First Lady.
We all thought Nana was solely responsible for this arrest and a number of others due to the publication of what they deemed to be falsehoods about the First Family and government.
As one who takes credit for the repeal of the criminal libel law, it was surprising to some of us that people who spoke against the President or his wife were treated in such a manner.
We blamed Nana for it.
If what happened yesterday is anything to go by, then the intolerant one of the two is the First Lady. She is the one behind such abuse of press freedom.
I can foresee a nighttime conversation like this:
Auntie Becky: Baby Dee, did you hear what that journalist said about you?
Addo Dee: Oh yeah, you know these journalists; we just have to live with it.
Auntie Becky: No, don’t say that. You are the President of the land; you are not going to allow them to get away with these things.
Addo Dee: So what should I do?
Auntie Becky: You know what to do. Call the IGP to act. I won’t sit here for these boys to say such things about you or me.
Some are saying she is being real. Next joke. She demonstrated intolerance and top-level pride in an unprecedented manner. Isn’t Lordina human and a woman too? What wasn’t said against Mahama? What hasn’t been said against Mills?
Is it not the language of every opposition to rank the outgoing government as the worst ever? So what was new in what was said?
She didn’t cover herself in glory, and in that short period, she showed that she could be a major behind-the-scenes player in some of the abuses that took place in this government.
This is the speaker of parliament in public oo, so imagine a journalist in private.
She is the one
