National Concerned Drivers Association (NCDA) has given the government a three-week ultimatum to release some thirty two drivers arrested at galamsey sites across the country.
According to the concerned drivers, the arrested 32 drivers have “committed no crime” to be held in police custody all this while.
“We are calling on the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to order the release of our fellow drivers who have committed no crime”
“We are giving the President from now to 6th March 2020 to release the excavator drivers or We will join the him in Kumasi for the independent day ceremony,” they stated.
The drivers also expressed concern about a statement uttered by the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia concerning the actual state of drivers under the Akufo-Addo led government. They asserted that the state of drivers has been poor.
“Just last week, the vice President Dr. Bawumia addressing a town hall meeting made mockery lying about drivers being comfortable under this hardship Nana Addo/Bawumia governance.
“We want to categorically state that, after Nana Addo and his government duped we the poor drivers, the vice President has the balls to tells us we are enjoying”.
They bemoaned the increasing prices of fuel, and the poor nature of the roads in the country which has worsened the plight of drivers.
The drivers therefore warned the authorities to stop misrepresenting issues concerning their livelihoods.
