Richard Ahiagbah: Bawumia’s fisheries sector vision is transformative – vote for him in 2024 Elections

Other achievements highlighted by Bawumia include the provision of funds to contain and prevent the outbreak of Infectious Spleen and Kidney Virus Disease, the utilization of condensate produced by Ghana Gas for premix fuel, and the training of 321 individuals under the Aquaculture for Food and Jobs Initiative.

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), believes that the fisheries policy proposal put forward by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will significantly benefit fisherfolk nationwide, providing them with new opportunities and a brighter future. Ahiagbah expressed his confidence in Bawumia’s vision, particularly its potential to bring about positive change and uplift fishing communities across the country.

During his address to fisherfolk in the Western Region as part of his national tour, Vice President Bawumia emphasized the pivotal role of the fisheries sector in Ghana’s economy. He identified various challenges hindering the sector’s growth, including supply chain inefficiencies in Premix Fuel distribution, inadequate cold storage facilities, illegal fishing practices, and limited access to credit and financial services.

To address these challenges, Bawumia outlined a comprehensive plan aimed at maximizing Ghana’s fisheries resources from both sea and inland sources. This plan aims to support industrial, semi-industrial, and artisanal players within the sector and promote female participation beyond the current 40% level identified by the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Highlighting the NPP’s achievements in the fisheries sector, Bawumia cited the construction of coastal fish landing sites in several communities across Ghana, including Axim, Discove, Mumford, Moree, Winneba, Ekumfi-Otuam, Mfantseman, Senya Breku, and Elmina. He also mentioned ongoing projects such as the construction of landing beaches in Jamestown, Teshie, and Osu in the Greater Accra Region, each at various stages of completion.

Additionally, Bawumia pointed out progress made in sea defense projects, with completion rates ranging from 50% to 99% in areas such as Anomabu, Komenda, and Ningo Prampram. The government’s efforts to digitize the distribution of premix fuel across the country were also highlighted, with automation projects successfully completed in various regions.

In conclusion, Bawumia urged fisherfolk to support his bid for the presidency to continue the NPP’s work in advancing the interests of the fishing communities. He emphasized the government’s commitment to developing policies and initiatives that will empower fisherfolk, strengthen the fisheries sector, and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of Ghana.
