Richard Jakpa is responsible for Special Operations at National Security

Richard Jakpa has been appointed as the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, effective January 31, 2025, sources within the agency have revealed. His appointment came just before his reported involvement in an operation at the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

As Director of Special Operations, Jakpa is responsible for overseeing covert and overt security operations, developing early warning systems for national threats, ensuring the readiness of rapid response teams, and leading crisis response efforts. His mandate includes acting on directives from the National Security Coordinator or Chief Director.

Jakpa’s name resurfaced after CCTV footage from Ofori-Atta’s residence allegedly showed him leading a security operation at the property. According to sources within National Security, the operation was carried out based on an arrest warrant issued against the former minister in connection with corruption and other financial crimes.

Officials insist that the security team did not break into the residence but gained entry through the main gate after presenting the warrant to the security officer on duty. However, Ofori-Atta was not at home at the time of the operation, and the team was unable to execute the arrest.

The incident has sparked discussions about the timing of Jakpa’s appointment and his role in high-profile security operations. National Security authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
