A Senior National Security Operative has backed the raid organized by Mr. Richard Jakpa in the home of a former Finance Minister Ken Ofori- Atta.

The Operative who spoke to Newsflashafrica.com Editor on conditions of anonymity emphasized that Mr. Richard Jakpa, as the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat has the authority and discretion to take an action which is in the interest of the state.

As experienced ex-military officer who was appointed a few weeks ago by President Mahama to the position, Mr. Jakpa led an operation into the house of Mr. Ofori Atta following a Report by Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) which him in several corruption related crimes.

Mr. Jakpa’s action has since received mixed reactions from the public but the National Security operative insisted that what Mr. Jakpa did falls in line with his core mandate as the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.

According to him, Mr. Jakpa’s responsibilities include but not limited to Supervising the planning and execution of covert and overt operations; Developing early warning systems for emerging threats such as terrorism, insurgency, and organized crime; Ensuring the operational readiness of special forces and rapid response units; Leading crisis response teams during national security emergencies; and Carrying out other functions as directed by the National Security Coordinator or Chief Director.

Throwing more light on the raid, the source, emphasized that the security team did not break into the house. Instead, they entered through the gate after presenting the arrest warrant to the security officer on duty, who then allowed them access.

The operation was conducted to effect the arrest of Ofori-Atta so he could answer questions related to corruption and other crime-related issues.

However, at the time of the operation, Ken Ofori-Atta was not present at his residence.
