Until her appointment she was seen as a neutral public servant occupying the position working at the Electoral Commission of Ghana. She is on record to have responded to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on many occasions in the run-up to the campaign for the 2020 elections.

On one of the occasions when she was responding to rigging allegations of the opposition NDC, Sylvia Annoh said in an official statement that “The NDC was bent on tarnishing the image of the commission.”

“The Electoral Commission is not oblivious of the calculated attempts by the NDC to repeatedly peddle untruths and falsehoods aimed at tarnishing its image and causing disaffection for it”, the then EC’s public affairs director, now ambassador to Denmark reacted on behalf of the EC.

President Akufo-Addo has also maintained vice president Mahamudu Bawumia’s in-law, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan as Ghana’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emiratesn (UAE) where he had served as the country’s representative in the last four years.

The immediate past Minister for local government and rural development and member of parliament for Gambaga/Nalerigu constituency, Hajia Alima Mahama has also been appointed to represent Ghana at the United States of America (USA).

A new Portfolio known as ‘Ambassador in Situ (Chief of Protocols)’ has also been created and is to be occupied by one Emmanuel Kwame Asiedu Antwi.

It is not yet clear what the purpose or role of this office would be.
