Sam George calls out NPP over “delusional” Job Creation Claims

So, if you’ve created 2.3 million jobs, we must have a job surplus and we would have gone to Togo and Burkina for workforce,”

Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ningo-Prampram constituency, Sam Nartey George, has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their recent claim of creating 2.3 million jobs.

Speaking on GHOne Television, George described the NPP’s assertion as either a lie or delusional.

George highlighted Ghana’s current unemployment rate of 14.7%, which translates to 1.3 million unemployed individuals. He argued that if the NPP had indeed created 2.3 million jobs, the country would be experiencing a job surplus, potentially attracting workers from neighbouring countries like Togo and Burkina Faso.

“The Ghana Statistical Service that you quoted says that we have an unemployment rate of 14.7% and puts the number at 1.3 million. So, if you’ve created 2.3 million jobs, we must have a job surplus and we would have gone to Togo and Burkina for workforce,” George stated.

He further questioned the source of the job creation figures, referencing data from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), which shows only 1.8 million active subscribers in the Ghanaian job market.

“Meanwhile, SSNIT has only 1.8 million active subscribers, the Ghana Statistical Service said we have 1.3 million unemployed young people, but you’ve created 2.3 million. If you are not lying, then you are delusional,” he noted.

George emphasized that the youth are no longer willing to accept the government’s unfulfilled promises, criticizing the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration for failing to deliver on their job creation promises made in 2016.

He reiterated that the government’s claims are not credible given the current unemployment situation in the country.
