Some Traditional Area has been elevated to the status of traditional council by the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. The elevation is in line with the Chieftaincy Act of Ghana.
At a brief inaugural ceremony at Agbozume – capital of the Some state, Acting Chief Director at the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ms Fati Lilly Soale, speaking on behalf of the Sector Minister, Kojo Kum, said the council status will pave way for the formation of committees that would ensure a smooth delivery on the mandate.
She said the chieftaincy institution plays a pivotal role in the forward match of every nation and called for respect for the institution.
“Because of the vital role traditional leaders play in shaping national discourses, the settlement of disputes among their subjects, the maintenance of law and order as well as spearheading and lobbying for developmental projects in their communities, there is the need for society to accord them the needed respect,” She noted.
Torgbiga Adamah III (Makorsor) Paramount Chief of the Some Traditional Area was elected president of the newly inaugurated council alongside 13 other traditional rulers who were also sworn in as members. In an address, the president of the council expressed gratitude to the president and the sector ministers for honouring the Some Traditional Area with the Council, which he said had been a very long standing concern and need of the chiefs, queens and citizens of Some.
Torgbiga Adamah III called for togetherness and fellow-feeling among all citizens of Some and appealed to all and sundry to eschew petty squabbles and rancour and to pull together towards the forward match of the Traditional Area.
