President Akufo-Addo has disclosed that, the reconstruction of the La General Hospital will be completed in twenty-eight (28) months.
He made this known while delivering the State of the Nations Address (SONA) on Tuesday, February 27 in Parliament.
According to him, government has secured an alternative source of funding to ensure rapid completion of the reconstruction of the La Hospital Project.
“Mr. Speaker, I am happy to announce that an alternative source of funding has also been secured for the reconstruction and completion of La Hospital Project, as a fully functional modern hospital, with the necessary equipment for diagnosis and treatment”, he said.
He disclosed that, the contractor has been paid an advance mobilizations fee of US$7.5 million, to ensure the effectiveness of the project and completion within the time frame.
“The contractor has been paid an advance mobilization of fifteen percent (15%), representing some seven-point-five million dollars (US$7.5 million), and work has begun. The project commenced, effectively, in January this year, and will be completed in twenty-eight (28) months”, President Akufo-Addo added.
In July 2020, the facility was demolished after the hospital’s administration in 2015 reported of severe structural problems.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on August 10, 2020, cut the sod for the commencement of construction of the La General Hospital Redevelopment Project but the hospital is yet to be built.
