South-Dayi: DCE Hot over Premix Fuel Cash

Residents and fishers in Dzemeni, a fishing community in the Volta Region are up in arms against the South-Dayi District Chief Executive, Kodzo Mallet and his Assembly for their continuous refusal to release an amount of GHC200, 000.00 which is part of the community’s share of revenue accrued from the sale of Pre-mix fuel.

The said money is meant to be used for development of the area.

Speaking at a press briefing on behalf of the people, Headman and Chief of Dzemeni, Torgbui Mawufeame Medeale noted that the District Chief Executive on several attempts to have him release the said money proved futile. According to the Chief of Dzemeni, this has led to his people seeking justice from the law court.

Residents of Dzemeni according to them would have no option than to seek justice from the law court to force the DCE of South-Dayi to release the said amount of which is legitimately meant for development purposes of Dzemeni and its satellite communities.

This amount they say is monies accrued from pre-mix fuel sold, and under the L. I. on pre-mix fuel selling communities, it has spelt out modalities regarding the usage of such fund which is for development purposes of 4 landing beach communities. However what the media has learned is that, the Assembly in there has denied the people’s share of the said revenue.

Residents complained that since assumption to office as DCE, he never released their share of money accrued from pre-mix fuel sale upon several letters to him.

The Chief Fisherman of Dzemeni enclave, Robert Loli who spoke with the media said the DCE has deliberately refused to release the money for no apparent reason, describing the DCE’s attitude towards them as terrible and scary, he therefore appealed to high authorities to intervene.

To buttress reasons why they are calling for their share of the said revenue, children of the Ansurriyah Islamic primary School are studying under a structure that could best be described as death trap.

In this regard the Headman and Chief of Dzemeni, Torgbui Mawufeame Medeale is constructing a 6-unit classroom block for the school which which building is now at lintel level.

The Dzemeni E.P Basic school also has no place of convenience making children to trek almost 6 km to enable them attend to nature’s call.

The chief Fisherman of Dzemeni, Robert Loli therefore says swift release of the said funds would go a long way to solve many problems in his area.

Residents have threatened not to allow the DCE into the community to campaign for political gains.
