Stop playing God, only He can choose leaders, not you – Mahama jabs Akufo-Addo

“God willing, when I come, I will come with the man who is going to be my successor. Wa Naa, you know that the man I removed from the seat, I cannot have him as my successor and as a traditional ruler, you understand what I am saying.”

Former President John Dramani Mahama has lambasted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for suggesting that he cannot be succeeded by his predecessor. Akufo-Addo’s statement at a recent event in Wa implied that his successor should not be the one he replaced.

Despite his claim, President Akufo-Addo assured that he was committed to ensuring that the 2024 elections would be free, fair, and transparent.

In response to these remarks, John Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urged the president to focus on overseeing credible elections and leave the matter of choosing the next president to God.

“I want to urge the president, that the best legacy he can leave this country is to superintend over a peaceful, transparent and credible election. I wish to remind him that it is God who makes rulers and he can never be the one to choose his successor, it is God who will choose his successor,” Mahama stated during an event over the weekend to launch the construction of a new Jakpa Palace.

Mahama assured that the NDC would work to ensure a peaceful election in 2024.

President Akufo-Addo has publicly backed his Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, as his preferred successor on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

At an event in the Wa Naa’s palace, Akufo-Addo stated: “Before the election is held, I am going to come here and pay my proper goodbye to you and thank you for the cooperation that I received from you when I was president.”

“God willing, when I come, I will come with the man who is going to be my successor. Wa Naa, you know that the man I removed from the seat, I cannot have him as my successor and as a traditional ruler, you understand what I am saying.”

“Our country is known as the pacesetter for democratic governance across the entire continent of Africa. I want to assure you that this year, we are going to maintain that reputation. But I need your support and cooperation,” Akufo-Addo added.
