Suaman MP Supports Youth to Unlock Talents in Sports

This donation fulfils the MP’s promise to the youth and the entire constituency to support the Education Directorate and encourage young people to celebrate togetherness through the power of sport

In an effort to support the youth in unlocking their talents in sports, Joseph Betino, the Member of Parliament for Suaman, has presented jerseys and footballs to the Suaman District Directorate of Education. These items will be distributed to basic schools within the Suaman Constituency to help students develop their skills in soccer and other sports disciplines.

This donation fulfils the MP’s promise to the youth and the entire constituency to support the Education Directorate and encourage young people to celebrate togetherness through the power of sport. Hon. Betino emphasized that this support highlights the importance of physical education (PE) and school sports in enhancing the health and well-being of young people.

Every year, several schools and teachers across the constituency mark the week by holding sports days or community sporting events, encouraging active lifestyles. To support these initiatives, Hon. Betino presented a set of jerseys, footballs, and a cash donation of GHS 5,000.00 to the Suaman District Education Office for their sports activities.

Hon. Betino believes that quality physical education and school sports equip young people to tackle some of the big challenges they face today, such as improving their well-being. He stressed that these activities prepare students to learn and help them connect with others. However, in recent years, young people have become less active, and PE has been undervalued and cut back.

“We will only turn this around with schools, teachers, parents, and others joining together to show why PE and school sports have an essential role to play in every young person’s education, which should be considered on a par with Maths and English,” he added.

Betino expressed his commitment to continue supporting sporting activities as part of his campaign and called on schools, families, and communities across the constituency to get involved. He added, “Sport has such incredible power to have a hugely positive impact on children’s lives. It increases their physical and mental well-being, helps them achieve at school, and teaches important life skills such as teamwork, confidence to try new things, and leadership.”

He urged schools across the constituency to put sport and physical activity at the heart of every school day, creating a cultural shift where it becomes routine in the daily lives of young people. The District Education Directorate and youth leaders of the communities thanked the MP and promised to use the jerseys, footballs, and cash for their intended purpose.
