Suspected armed robber arrested in Wa

“Suspect Yussif Abubakari who is currently in police custody admitted to the offense and will be prosecuted before court soon.

A suspected armed robber, Yussif Abubakari, is in the grips of the police in Wa for allegedly attacking and robbing two students of the SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) of their belongings.

The suspect and one Olly, his accomplice, now at large, allegedly attacked the students when they were returning from the school campus on the outskirt of Bamahu towards the Bamahu town through a footpath at about 1900HRS on May 19, 2022.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Peter Anumbugre Ndekugri, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, revealed this at a media briefing in Wa.

He said the suspect allegedly made away with a wine-coloured Savvy motorbike with registration number M-22-UW-2541, iPhone 7plus, Techno mobile phone, cash sum of Gh¢300 and a lady’s hand bag containing ID cards.

“Suspect Yussif Abubakari who is currently in police custody admitted to the offense and will be prosecuted before court soon.

“The police are making every effort to get the said accomplice also arrested for investigation,” DCOP Ndekugri said.
According to him, the suspects allegedly attacked their victims with an object suspected to be a pistol, a cutlass, and a screwdriver.

He said the police launched an investigation after receiving the report of the armed robbery, which led to the arrest of suspect Yussif Abubakari at his hideout in Bamahu, a suburb of Wa, where the screwdriver which he used for the attack was retrieved.

“He then led police to Danku, also a suburb of Wa, where he and his accomplice had hidden the stolen items.

“The following items have so far been retrieved; a wine-coloured Savvy motorbike with registration number M-22-UW-2541 with the number plate removed from it, an iPhone 7plus, and different ID cards”, DCOP Ndekugri explained.
