Tell Akufo-Addo it’s not in his mouth to determine who he will hand over to’ – Mahama to C/R Chiefs

John Mahama touted the incorruptible character of his running mate, citing her years of experience in public office as her trump card for the office of the Vice Presidency.

John Dramani Mahama has asked the Central Regional House of Chiefs to advise President Akufo-Addo to promise Ghanaians that he will hand over power irrespective of who wins power after the December elections.

The former President says Akufo-Addo is not the one to determine whom he will hand over power to after the polls.

His comments come on the back of President Akufo-Addo’s comments that he will not hand over power to Mahama in 2025.

During the introduction of his running mate to the chiefs in the Central Region Tuesday, July 30, 2024, John Mahama noted that if Ghanaians vote for him in December, Akufo-Addo cannot say he won’t hand over to him.

“And please tell him that it’s not in his mouth to determine who he will hand over to. He should just promise that when the elections are held, whoever wins he will hand over, but you can’t say you won’t hand over to John Mahama.

“If the people of Ghana say they want John Mahama and they elect me, you’ll have to hand over to me,” he indicated.

John Mahama touted the incorruptible character of his running mate, citing her years of experience in public office as her trump card for the office of the Vice Presidency.

According to him, a Mahama-Jane Opoku-Agyemang partnership will be an envy to many on the continent.

“Prof. Naana Jane is a leader who possesses high moral values, she is incorruptible and all through her service to Ghana has remained committed and patriotic.

“She comes with wisdom, tact, passion, integrity and decades of experience to the Vice Presidential office,” he extolled.

On her part, John Mahama’s running mate, Prof. Opoku Agyemang, expressed joy in the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill, saying the implementation should be a clarion responsibility of all.

She asked that measures be put in place to ameliorate any challenges that will affect the implementation of the Bill.

“Passing the bill and implementing it are two different things. Now it’s been passed. We want 30% who are pushing us back. We all know. The men know, the women know so we need to look at what is it that might want the implementation of the Affirmative Action Bill not as smooth and as successful as it ought to be,” she indicated.
