David Kwame Adomakoh, the Board chairman of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), has tendered his resignation citing the withdrawal of a proposed partnership between TOR and Tema Energy and Processing Limited.
The partnership, deemed vital by the board for rejuvenating TOR, faced unexpected setbacks, prompting Mr Adomakoh’s departure.
Mr Adomakoh’s resignation reportedly conveyed to the Presidency in January, marks a significant development barely a year after the inauguration of TOR’s new board under the stewardship of Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
In the wake of Mr Adomakoh’s departure, President Akufo-Addo has underscored the ongoing commitment to fully revitalizing the Tema Oil Refinery. This commitment was reiterated during the inauguration ceremony of the Sentuo Oil Refinery, owned by Chinese firm Sentuo Group, held in Tema on January 26.
Highlighting the potential synergy between a fully operational Tema Oil Refinery and the Sentuo Oil Refinery, President Akufo-Addo emphasized Ghana’s capability to domestically refine a substantial portion of its oil, thereby reducing reliance on imported refined products.
