Kyebi is on edge following reports that land guards have allegedly stormed mining sites, sparking fear and unrest among residents and miners. At the center of the controversy is the overlord of Akyem Abuakwa, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, who has been accused of introducing a notorious land guard, Abass Sakini, and his team to his sub-chiefs.
Sources indicate that the Chief’s introduction of the land guards came with directives to assert control over mining sites, allegedly to protect the community’s interests. However, this move has been met with strong resistance, as miners and residents claim the unauthorized display of arms by these enforcers is instilling fear and panic.
The situation has escalated, with reports suggesting that some miners have begun arming themselves in self-defense, raising concerns about potential violent clashes. The growing tension has prompted calls for immediate intervention by the Kyebi Police Command to restore calm and prevent bloodshed.
Authorities are under pressure to address the crisis, with many urging a peaceful resolution through dialogue rather than force. The incident has also sparked debate over the role of traditional leaders in dispute resolution and the importance of collaboration between stakeholders to prevent such conflicts.
As tensions mount, the community remains on high alert, hoping for a swift and peaceful resolution to the unfolding crisis.
