The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) in collaboration with SyPhics Studios and Renegade Africa, today launched an event aimed at celebrating root culture in the municipality – Afrofest 2019: year of return edition.
The event is being purposefully organized to showcase the “culture and beauty of the Metropolis”
Addressing stakeholders at the event today, the Mayor of TMA, Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La asserted that the event is in lieu with plans to revive the “once vibrant Tema city life”
He mentioned that major stakeholders are collaborating to help the people, particularly the youth showcase their talents and cultural diversity. He argued that, creating such an avenue through the event, will push the youth to focus on productive activities rather than social vices.
According to the Mayor, Afrofest 2019 is not merely to entertain, but create a conducive environment for talent display and culture embracing. This he noted will restore the “entertainment and night of the Metropolis”
The Public Relations officer (PRO) of SyPhics studios, Oscar Mawuli mentioned that the event is to “celebrate ourselves and identity as a people” from Tema.
He noted that, Afrofest is going to unite the people of TMA as they celebrate their culture through music, talent display, cuisine among many others. He added that TMA can through the program display the beauty of African roots.
He gave the breakdown of activities for the 7-day event;
Saturday, 21st December – Durbar of Chiefs at TMA Forecourt , Community 1;
Sunday, 22nd December – Afro Food Festival / 9 Lessons & Carols at Leisure Spot, Community 11; Monday, 23rd December – Stunt Biking/Community Games at Leisure Spot, Comm. 11;
Tuesday, 24th December – Afrofest Street Party at Leisure Spot, Comm. 11;
Wednesday, 25th December – Masquerade Carnival at Vera Street, Comm. 4;
Thursday, 26th December – Donation at Tema General Hospital, Comm. 12;
Wednesday 1st January – Kids Party at Tema New Town.”
The TMA, SyPhics Studios, Renegades Africa, and all stakeholders are inviting all persons in the Tema Metropolis and beyond to participate in Afrofest festivities this Christmas.
