Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Yao Archibald Letsa has emphasized that tourism has the power to transform Ghana’s economy by fostering cultural preservation, community development, and economic growth.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Lydia Nyarko-Ampomah, Volta Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), at the 2024 Volta Regional Tourism Awards, Dr. Letsa highlighted the region’s rich attractions, including the beaches of Keta, Afadjato, Likpe caves, and Wli Waterfalls, which have the potential to boost prosperity for both local communities and the nation.
He emphasized that realizing the region’s tourism potential requires collective efforts from individuals, institutions, and the government, with tourism being a key pillar in Ghana’s economic development.
Dr. Letsa also stressed that the government remains committed to improving infrastructure, and policies, and promoting investment in tourism. However, collaboration with traditional leaders, private sector players, and local communities is essential to the sector’s success.
Dr. Letsa called for innovation to meet the demands of modern travelers by leveraging technology, adopting sustainable practices, and developing new tourism products that cater to global trends.
Deputy Director of Administration at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Richard Agyenim Boateng speaking on behalf of CEO, Akwasi Agyeman, noted the growth of the Regional Tourism Awards over the years, which recognized excellence in the industry.
The awards not only celebrate dedication but also highlight the multi-stakeholder nature of tourism development in Ghana.
Volta Regional Manager of GTA, Johnny Arthur -Quarm acknowledged the region’s progress in promoting sustainable tourism and enhancing visitor experiences, which are the results of collaborative efforts.
The event, themed, “Celebrating Innovation and Recognising Excellence in Ghana’s Tourism Sector,” honored 17 award recipients across various categories for their contributions to tourism in the region and beyond.
