Tubongo/Tubalon Ghana Immigration Service Staff foil robbery attacks on 5th November 2023

It is to the credit of the Tubongo Ghana Immigration Service officials that they continue to maintain a level of community trust and confidence.

Locals reported on 05/11/23 that they sent a distress call at 10.48 PM to a Ghana Immigration Service Team on routine patrol duty in the Tempane general area.

The locals said they were being attacked and robbed by gunmen wielding AK47 assault riffles on the road from Tempane to the Kugri forest.

The gunmen reportedly abandoned their operation and fled into the nearby forest upon seeing the GIS personnel – who in recent months have been noted to have been heavily armed by the Government of Ghana.

One of the victims who was riding a Toyota scooter was was escorted to Kugri.

According to the locals, this was the second time in recent days that heavily armed GIS personnel foiled robbery attacks on that stretch of the Tempane-Kugri forest road.

Comment

It is to the credit of the Tubongo Ghana Immigration Service officials that they continue to maintain a level of community trust and confidence.

During our over six (6) months monitoring operations in border communities in the Tempane general area, we noted that the Tubongo GIS staff went beyond their normal duties to perform police duties as well as Intelligence gathering functions.

We noted that the GIS officials were not taking over the job of the Police and NIB who were based in Garu, and the Military based in Pulimakom, but they were patriotic enough to take the initiative to fill in the security gaps in the Tempane general area.

It is commendable that the Tubongo GIS officials are the lead Security Agents the locals confidently call on as they action the Ministry of National Stability’s “See Something Say Something” mantra.

I shall return
