The Head coach of the Black Princesses, Yussif Basigi says his team is ready for the tournament after drawing 2:2 against South Korea in a friendly game on Tuesday in Colombia.
The girls took on their second friendly game- during which they conceded two goals through penalties- as part of preparations towards the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup slated to start on August 31.
Their first friendly game against Mexico ended in a goalless draw.
From their performance against the Asian country, the Head Coach postulated that his team is ready for the task ahead.
“We are ready for the tournament. All that we were looking for in the team, we have seen it and it has given us hope that this team will live up to expectations,” he told the Ghana Football Association (GFA) media after the game against South Korea.
To him, the friendlies have proven worth it as the Princesses have been exposed to numerous lessons that would help shape their attitude towards the tournament.
“Conceding two penalties is a worry but it gives us a fair idea of what to expect in the main tournament because at times referees protect players a lot and so if you are not careful with a little touch, they take a penalty against you…It has given us a fair idea of what to do and we will work on that before our next game.”
Ghana will open the tournament against Austria on Monday, September 2, 2024.
