The United Cadres Front (UCF) has called for the immediate revocation of Rev. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko’s appointment as Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), following reports that he is a card-bearing member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the UCF, Rev. Fianko’s involvement with the NPP and his alleged role in the closure of media stations such as Radio Gold and Muntie FM, both known for their pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) stance, raises significant concerns. The group contends that appointing an NPP member to such a critical role would continue the controversial practices of former NCA Director-General, Joseph Anokye, who was brought from the United States specifically to assist the NPP in securing victory during the 2016 elections.
Despite internal disagreements within the leadership of the NDC regarding the appointment, the UCF has made it clear that they believe it is essential for the appointment to be reversed. In addition to Rev. Fianko’s appointment, the UCF has also raised concerns about the alleged appointment of Mr. Anthony Sarpong as the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), asserting that it too should be reconsidered.
The UCF further emphasized that any individuals within the NDC who may have facilitated these appointments, which they deem to be detrimental to the party’s interests, should be exposed.
“We strongly advise that the mole or moles in NDC who have a hand in these anti-party appointments need to be exposed,” the statement read.
The UCF, a group within the NDC, has urged the party to take immediate action to prevent any further compromise of its leadership and policies.
