The Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Development at the University of Ghana, Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, has encouraged Level 500 Doctor of Pharmacy students to embrace both the challenges and rewards that come with their professional journey.
Speaking at the university’s Transitional Ceremony, which marks the shift from preclinical to clinical years, Prof. Asante acknowledged that while the road ahead may be demanding, perseverance and commitment will be key to success.
“The journey may sometimes feel overwhelming, but it is important to remain steadfast, even during moments of doubt,” he advised.
Prof. Asante underscored the critical role of pharmacists in healthcare, describing them as the “heart” of the system and a crucial bridge between doctors and patients. He urged students to be mindful of their responsibilities as they transition into clinical practice.
Addressing the theme “Prescription for Change: Reimagining Healthcare,” he emphasized that pharmacists’ expertise goes beyond treating illnesses to disease prevention and overall public health advocacy.
Call for Improved Facilities and Support
The Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Prof. Isaac Julius Asiedu Gyekye, reminded students of the importance of confidentiality in their professional duties.
He also highlighted some challenges faced by the School of Pharmacy, particularly the need for larger lecture halls to accommodate the growing student population and a standby generator to mitigate the impact of persistent power outages on academic activities.
