The Principal Members and Elders of the Royal Adzovia family of the Anlo State in the Volta Region have called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, through the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, to investigate the alleged unlawful installation of Mr. Patrick Kwabla Agboba (Torgbui Sri I) as the Awoamefia of the Anlo State.
According to the Elders, who identify themselves as the true custodians and descendants from the three gates of the Adzovia Royal Family, they are displeased with the Ministry’s inaction regarding a petition they submitted on March 27, 2017, requesting an investigation into the matter.
The Elders argue that this installation has caused tensions and threatened peace in the region.
The petition, signed by Amega Albert Sadika, the stool father, Amega Ben Kukubor, stool secretary, and Mac Quarcoo Connel-Ackumey, a principal stool member, claims that the enstoolment of Mr. Patrick Kwabla Agboba during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration under the late President John Evans Atta Mills and former President John Dramani Mahama, was unlawful and continues to pose serious security challenges as the country approaches its December elections.
The petitioners allege that Mr. Agboba is not from the Royal Adzovia family and is therefore not the legitimate heir to the throne.
They claim that his enstoolment was orchestrated by individuals who are not recognized as legitimate kingmakers within the Adzovia family.
According to the petitioners, only individuals born into the Royal Adzovia lineage are eligible to occupy the Awoamefia throne, and they argue that Mr. Agboba’s paternal lineage traces back to Logba-Tota near Hohoe and his maternal lineage to Atsidzivi in the Akatsi District—neither of which connects him to the Royal Adzovia family.
Furthermore, the petitioners contend that Mr. Agboba’s ancestors have no bloodline relationship with the Royal Adzovia family, which inherited the Awoamezia from Torgbui Sri I (Adza Ashimadi).
They also alleged that Mr. Agboba was not enstooled on the original black stool, a symbol of legitimate authority.
The Royal Adzovia family is urging President Akufo-Addo, through the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, to take immediate action and prevent Mr. Agboba from continuing to represent himself as the Awoamefia of Anlo State.
They believe that such intervention is crucial to restoring peace and justice in the area.
The Elders emphasize that this will pave the way for the proper nomination and installation of the legitimate heir to the throne, ensuring unity, progress, and development for the Anlo State.
