Students and staff at La Enobal Basic School in the Greater Accra Region now have access to a newly renovated washroom facility, thanks to Vivo Energy’s commitment to improving sanitation at the school. The upgrade, which includes new equipment, aims to address the longstanding lack of proper sanitation facilities and provide a safer, more hygienic environment for both students and teachers.
The renovated washrooms are part of Vivo Energy’s ongoing social responsibility initiatives, designed to enhance sanitation standards and create a conducive environment for learning and teaching.
Shirley Tony Kum, the Corporate Communications Manager at Vivo Energy, addressed the gathering at the commissioning ceremony, stating that the company believes in creating environments that foster learning and promote good health. “Our presence here today is a testament to our continued commitment to providing infrastructure that helps fill the gaps in our communities,” she said.
Mr. Kilai Muasya, the Finance Manager at Vivo Energy, also spoke at the event, emphasizing that Vivo Energy is driven by a vision to become Africa’s leading and most respected energy business. “For us, respect is earned not only by delivering excellence in our industry but also by addressing the social and developmental needs of the communities we serve,” he said. “The washroom facility we are commissioning today is a practical demonstration of our vision in action. Access to a safe and hygienic environment is a basic human right and a fundamental pillar of dignity and health,” he added.
The renovation works undertaken by Vivo Energy Ghana included converting pit latrines (KVIP) into modern water closets, as well as the installation of urinal bowls and handwashing basins in both male and female washrooms. Additionally, a dedicated washroom facility was provided for the teachers.
Ms. Abiba Kotoma, the Educational Director of the Municipality, acknowledged the previous lack of adequate washroom facilities for the large student population. “The last time Vivo visited, they promised to renovate the washrooms, and today we are incredibly grateful for their support,” she said. “I cannot quantify our gratitude to Vivo. Students, particularly girls, sometimes missed classes due to the lack of proper washrooms. The old washroom was indeed a health hazard for the students,” she concluded.
The commissioning of the renovated washroom facility marks a significant milestone in Vivo Energy’s efforts to contribute to the betterment of communities in which it operates, ensuring that students at La Enobal Basic School can now enjoy a safer and healthier school environment.
