The Volta College Foundation (VCF), a non-governmental organization dedicated to societal development through social responsibility, has announced upcoming developmental projects aimed at uniting Voltarians and residents of the Oti Region.
The Foundation, which focuses on supporting the needy and underprivileged, recently held an end-of-year Thanksgiving Dinner in Accra to express gratitude to its members for their immense contributions to the organization’s success and impact in the Volta Region and beyond.
The event, hosted by the VCF’s Accra Zone, was a joyous and memorable occasion where members celebrated their achievements in education and social responsibility. In 2023, the VCF made significant strides, including rescuing 15 trafficked children from child labor activities in Yeji and Akosombo.
Speaking at the event, VCF President, Hon. Mark Thomson Gbety, in an interview with Ghana News Online, highlighted the Foundation’s mission. “The VCF is an organization founded by Voltarians to pool ideas and resources for the development of the Volta Region. Over the past five years, we have undertaken numerous activities, and today, we gather to thank God for guiding us through this journey as we prepare for our 5th Anniversary celebrations in March 2025,” he said.
Hon. Gbety outlined the Foundation’s impact, including empowering members to become self-employed and supporting graduates in trades like tailoring and hairdressing. Additionally, the VCF has supported schools, renovated the Pando Prison by painting and replacing toilet facilities, and donated books to the School for the Blind at Adedome.
As part of its 5th Anniversary activities, the VCF is embarking on ambitious projects, including the provision of boreholes across all communities in the Volta Region to ensure 24-hour access to clean water. The Foundation also plans to establish a piggery project to support its operations financially in the future.
“Funding for our operations primarily comes from member contributions. The VCF comprises 500 members worldwide. For our landmark anniversary, each member will contribute GHS 150, which will enable us to construct boreholes and overhead water tanks as part of our mission to provide water for communities in the region,” Hon. Gbety concluded.
