Head Coach of Black Starlets, Laryea Kingston, has said he is focused on getting the squad qualified for the 2025 U-17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This is because the Black Starlets have failed to qualify for the 2019 and 2023 editions.
However, Laryea Kingston’s men are close to securing their place in the 2025 edition, after beating Benin 2-0 yesterday at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Speaking after the game, Laryea Kingston said it would be a great feeling to get the team qualified for the 2025 AFCON.
“It will be amazing because, since 2017, Ghanaians have not seen our youth team that previously we enjoyed most. From 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001 that we lost this team so if we are able to qualify this team, I will be very much happy than anything in the world because I know Ghanaians are craving for this, I know Ghanaians have worked so hard, they’ve put a lot of things in place for us to get there but it’s being very difficult because other countries are also developing.
“But I think we are in the right direction. We’re taking it a game at a time, and now we’re in the semis, any team that you put in front of us, myself and my technical team will sit down and have a game plan for it. I believe on Saturday, we will be ready to face any opponent that comes to us.”
Ghana’s next game is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024.
