The Ghana National Association of Teachers’ (GNAT) and other teacher unions in Ghana joined the rest of the world to celebrate 2022 World Teachers’ Day under the theme: The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers.
Hundreds of teachers within the Madina Adenta Abokobi (MAA) District GNAT marked the International Teachers’ Day with sporting activities at the Madina Astroturf Sports Center.
Christian Yaw Adinkra, the Chairman for Madina, Adenta, Abokobi District GNAT in an interview with 3FM stated that although they are proud to be impacting the lives of their students, teachers are not happy with their conditions of service.
“I am proud to be a teacher, but I am not happy as a teacher because. If you look at our conditions of service as teachers, it is pathetic compared to other sectors. But I am proud because contributing to develop the students who are the future of this nation “Yaw Adinkra echoed
Explaining the theme of the World Teachers’ Day, the MAA District GNAT chairman said that it is only when the teacher is motivated and provided with the relevant teaching and learning materials that he or she would be able to transform the students.
Teachers from seven local branches of the association within the three municipalities of LaNkwantanang Madina, Adentan and Abokobi participated in; soccer male/female, musical chairs, 50 meters dash for female, ludo, oware, draught game, playing cards, and scrabble among others.
At the end of the inter-local competition; Botwe local emerged the 1st, with Pantang, Madina, Abokobi, Adenta, Presec, and Atomic locals occupying 2nd, 3rd,4th,5th,6th, and 7th positions respectively.
