Former Black Stars player Charles Taylor has reiterated that Ghana can’t afford to take Asamoah Gyan who is without a club to the World Cup, citing that any competent coach won’t permit that to happen.
Last week, Asamoah Gyan declared his intentions to feature for the Black Stars at the World Cup in Qatar in an interview with the BBC but the mercurial forward has been without a club since leaving Legon Cities at the end of the 2020/21 season.
The situation Gyan finds himself in has led to many football pundits, former players and stakeholders call him out on his intentions of playing at the World Cup with the veteran being the latest to share his opinions on the matter.
“We have regular fitness and match fitness. Even those who get injured and return struggle to hit the ground running,” he told Angel FM.
“We are not talking about history, we’re looking at current performance. He has done his bit for the country.
“A fit and firing Gyan will have a free ride to the World Cup but let’s ask what he is training for? We have two months to the World Cup so if you can’t we should add you.
“I don’t think any competent coach will entertain this. We can’t take someone who is not playing for any club,” he added.
The Black Stars will play two world class against Switzerland and Brazil before participating in the global showdown which commences on November 20, 2022 with Ghana in group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
